So much can be said about the golden healing liquid that is chicken broth. A kitchen must, a pantry staple, and you just can’t make a marvelous soup without it. It simply cannot be replaced with a store bought version. It’s great for flavoring foods and deglazing pans. Let’s get all the flavor you’ve cooked into your food and on to your taste buds.
Chicken Broth (Instant Pot)
Ingredients
- 1 chicken carcass with as much meat as possible
- 1 carrot roughly cut
- 2 celery roughly cut
- 1 large onion roughly cut
- water
- seasonings (see note)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to the Instant Pot. Make sure not to add to much water leave a fair amount of room under the MAX line.
- Lock and seal Instant Pot, then set to High Pressure or Broth for 40 minutes.
- Let release naturally.
- Once done, strain through a colander into heat proof containers.
- You can use immediately or store.

Why use the Instant Pot?
Making chicken broth on the stove top can be time-consuming and energy consuming. Making a proper bone broth can take anywhere from 12-18 hrs. The Instant Pot gives you less time over the stove and more time doing what’s important to you. Being that it does save energy I love using it in the hotter months. Chicken broth is amazing to have on hand for flavoring earthy grains like quinoa. It’s also useful for cooking other grains like couscous and rice. All you do is substitute the water for chicken broth. Think of that unhealthy ramen packet and what you can do with it now that you have your own chicken broth!

Some benefits include improved digestion, better skin, improved sleep, it can help protect your joints, and amp up your immune system. Storing:
You can keep your broth in the fridge for a week or for months depending on the fat. As long as you don’t puncture the fat on top, it will protect the food from bacteria. This how our ancestors stored items. Make sure to save the fat for frying up potatoes or veggies. Your body will thank you for the added omegas and vitamins.
You can freeze the broth in ice cube trays for easy deglazing or freeze flat in ziplock bags for easy storage. Mason jars are popular too. If using the mason jar method, make sure to leave plenty of room for the chicken broth to able to expand without shattering your jars. And make sure to defrost properly.
